How to Avoid Getting Anxious During NEET UG/PG Preparation?

The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is a single common entrance examination for admission in MBBS and BDS programs in all Indian states . It is conducted by the NTA

For medical school, both NEET-UG and NEET-PG are used for admission. Students need to qualify for each exam with a minimum percentile score to be eligible for the exam. For undergraduate admission, all three of the following subjects need to be passed: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology. The two exams together make up the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in medicine — a common examination used across India. For postgraduate admission to degrees such as MS, MD, and DNB, you will need to qualify for the NEET-PG.

  • COMPARISON

Comparing yourself with peers or past high achievers is a sure-shot way to down your motivation for your NEET prep journey. Your NEET journey is going to be unique to you. Someone could be halfway through their schedule while others could be behind schedule. For example, comparing your progress with someone who already completed NEET PG thrice, can only cause more stress. So, find out what works for you and be persistent with it.

  • DISRUPTED SLEEP CYCLE

In the drive to come out victorious in your NEET journey, some may tend to disregard the amount of sleep they’re getting. You may not want to do this. This is because it’s scientifically proven that a person needs at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep each day to function properly. Less sleep also affects your brain’s cognitive functions, which means even if you sacrifice your sleep to study, you won’t even actually be able to study well.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA

Now we won’t advise you to exclude social media from your routine wholly. However, there should be factors of balancing and prioritizing present. We always promote keeping a balance between what is the priority and what is not. To balance time between priorities, it is always recommended to prioritize what matters and what does not.

Additionally, there are ways to manage your stress during NEET UG/PG preparation so you can successfully pass your exams!

  • PRIORITIZING

Choose subjects that you feel you should personally work on more to ace your prep. Further, do not waste time revising topics that are basic and you already know by heart. Prioritize topics and chapters that you find tough to understand or memorize. This will make your study schedule a whole lot simpler and more efficient, and you’re spending extra time revising what you need to study instead of topics you already know.

  • SELF CARE

We know, during prep time all you can think about is finishing your syllabus and revision. But the key to a sustainable prep schedule is balance. Take time out of the day when you do something that you know will recharge your body and mind. A lot of people like to meditate, paint, listen to music, etc, you can do anything you’d like as long as it’s not so extreme that it will deter you from your prep mindset.

  • USE STUDY TECHNIQUES

Using scientifically proven techniques to study is sure to accelerate your NEET prep progress. One such technique is the POMODORO method. This technique consists of typically a 25-minute study session ending with a 5-minute break and goes in a cycle. You can customize the periods to your liking. Many love the active recall technique as well, where you write down as much as you remember from a topic and then go back to check what you missed. These are well-liked techniques in the productivity community on the internet and many vouch for their effectiveness.
